About

Hi! My name is Mariah Ellis. I am a Christian, wife, mom, and homeschool teacher.

When taking engagement pictures and dreaming of our future, Matt and I had no idea we would end up here. Our hopes and dreams map out our lives, even subconsciously, but on the journey of life there are severe detours. Sometimes, those new paths can make our heart sing and bring such joy. Others can lead us into deserts, rocky mountain paths, and push us far beyond what we think we are capable of.

The process of adopting from foster care plunged my husband and me into a chaotic world that nothing had prepared us for. Some days, we have been lost in whitewater rapid emotions without a canoe or shore in sight. Other days, we have savored sweet connection and the hope of connecting hearts. Most days, it is a swirling mixture of both.

One of the things that has been true throughout the entire journey to this point is a desperate need for hope when everything is so far beyond the “normal” journey of parenthood. We are not out of the difficult woods. In fact, with our oldest just twelve, we are just approaching the scary.

Just this weekend, however, God reminded me of a powerful truth. Jesus spoke in Luke 12: 25 and 31 in the New Living Translation Bible and said, “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.”

It is not my job to worry and obsess about keeping everyone in my family safe. It is not yours either. It is not my job to convince my kids that God is real and has loved them their entire lives. He is fully capable of revealing himself to my kiddos. And yours. There is hope. TODAY. We do not have to wait for evidence before believing in that hope.

As I write, I will be looking at my world with realistic eyes. This walk we have chosen is so, so hard. And yet, you can also see with me the hope that we have in Him, in Jesus, to overcome. If you would like to join with me on this journey, I would love to have you.

In faith and hope,
Mariah
