During this week, we will be reading and reflecting on Chapter 4 of It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way.
Day One:
A.) Reflect on chapter 4.
B.) Who have you given so much power to that their words about you being naked make you afraid? How have their words affected you?
C.) Have you ever feared dealing with your own covered-up places so much that you attempted to expose others instead? How has that played out?
D.) Genesis 3:9,11
Day Two:
A.) What could you intentionally take away in order to process your pain and hear God’s voice?
B.) For the list above, write out intentional exchanges you can make. (Ex: Limit reading Facebook and read the Bible instead.)
C.) Luke 5:15-16
Day Three:
A.) What fears do you have about cutting those things out?
B.) How can you address those obstacles so that you really do carve out the things that keep you from hearing God’s voice?
C.) Psalm 109:105-108
Day Four:
A.) How are you living paralyzed by fear instead in the reality that you are deeply loved by God?
B.) What are some of the negative things you’ve heard from other people that made you feel labeled in some way? As a result, what are some lies you tell yourself to feed those insecurities?
C) 2 Timothy 1:7
Day Five:
A.) One thing you can do is to rehearse the truth that refutes these voices. Write down the truths from God’s Word that refute the lies you wrote yesterday. Makes sure to write them positively, not negatively. (Ex: I am of great value instead of I am not worthless.)
C.) Find a scripture that refutes the biggest lie you are struggling with. The list below can be used to get you started.
You are wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
You are a treasure. (1 John 3:1a)
You are beautiful. (1 Peter 3:3–4; Psalm 34:5; Romans 10:15)
You are fully known by Him and lavishly loved by Him. (John 10:14; Jeremiah 1:5a)
You are chosen. (2 Thessalonians 2:13; Colossians 3:12)
You are special. (Jeremiah 31:3; 1 Peter 2:9)
You are set apart. (Deuteronomy 14:2; Psalm 4:3)
All questions are quoted or paraphrased from “It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way” or the “It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way Study Guide” by Lysa TerKeurst.
